Eino Järvelin – LIVE

Jaakko Eino Kalevi’s alias Eino Järvelin, who plays with the conventions of Finnish "Iskelmä" music, will perform at Riche Lilla baren on wednesday, December 2, celebrating his debut album Laulaa, released earlier this year.

When a new Iskelmä artist releases their first album, it is usually a significant event not only for the aspiring musician themselves, but also for all those impatient listeners eagerly awaiting a brand-new and unheard-of sound that they can record onto their tape machines and play at their discos. It usually attracts attention and inspires hope. But will that hope prove justified? It may or may not, but in the case of EINO JÄRVELIN’s first LP, LAULAA, there seems to be good reason for optimism.

Both the man’s name and the music he plays capture the attention and spark the imagination. This is music for young and old alike, and it can be enjoyed in many different ways: listened to alone, immersed in one’s fantasies; as dance music; or simply as music playing in the background. Its relentless rhythmic pulse, the enchanting tones and sound effects of electronic instruments, and its modest, simple melodic patterns create an unusual yet contemporary atmosphere. Its effect is at times cosmically unreal and fleeting (“Juna Kulkee”, “Surujen Syna”), and at other times even grotesque and brimming with energy (“Mä Jocapäivä Töitä Teen”, “Pienestä Cii”).
